On the Chancery side of the District Court, April term, 1840
Charles L. Cope vs. Sophia Cope; Petition for DivorceNow on this day comes the said Charles L Cope and files his petition against Sophia Cope for divorce, and it appears to be the satisfaction of the Court that the said Sophia Cope is a non-resident of this Territory. It is, therefore, Ordered by the Court, that the notice of this petition be made in one of the newspapers printed and published in Burlington, for eight week successively next before the next term of this Court, and that if the said Sophia Cope does not then appear and answer said bill, the matters and things therein contained will be taken as confessed, and the Court will decree thereon accordingly.
