John A. GUSTAFSON & daughter Agnes/St. Michaels graveyard

GUSTAFSON, PARSONS

Seeking informaiton on John August GUSTAFSON and his young daughter Agnes GUSTAFSON. Agnes GUSTAFSON supposedly died on July 18, 1876 and was buried in St. Michaels churchyard. She was 11 months and 12 days old and was the daughter of John August GUSTAFSON and Christine (PARSONS) GUSTAFSON. John August GUSTAFSON supposedly died in Algona, Iowa on October 19, 1878 and was buried on October 20, 1878. I think that he may have been buried next to his daughter in St. Michaels, but I don't have any proof of that yet.

The widow, Christine (PARSONS) GUSTAFSON soon moved to Moline, Illinois with her 3 sons, Frank (8), Frederick (6) and Alvin (1) where they are found in the 1880 census.

Christine (PARSONS) GUSTAFSON raised her grand-daughter, Ruth, from about the age of 3. Ruth has been dead for many years now but she at one time typed out the above dates and places of death on several sheets of paper. (carbon copy paper was still being used then) Ruth had given several copies of the dates to family members and one of them passed it on to me. Since she was raised by her Grandmother I trust that the dates may be correct.

The WPA records don't show Agnes or Frank A. GUSTAFON, but I think that such a young family and a widow with 3 young sons maybe could not afford tombstones for her daughter or husband. Is there any other records that could prove when they died and where they are buried? Did the church keep death or burial records for their own churchyard?

Also, I've been told that all three sons were born in Algona, and that John A. GUSTAFSON died in Algona, and I see St. Michael's is a Whittemore cemetery. Is there more than one St. Michaels?

Would there be a newspaper dating back that far that could have mentioned either births or deaths?

I would appreciate any help on where to look for some proof.
