Judy,
I am not related to your relatives, but since your grandmother died in Wright County, I did a little research to see if they were connected to any Wright County families. My research revealed that it looks like her parents are: Ernest Ross, born ca. November 1868 in Illinois and died 02 Dec 1946 in Algona, Kossuth, Iowa and Matilda Priscilla Barkley, born May 1879 in Louisville, Saint Lawrence, New York and died 27 Aug 1911 in Algona, Kossuth, Iowa; They were married about 1898 in Iowa according to the 1900 and 1910 censuses. Both are buried in Riverview Cemetery in Algona. They had at least 6 children:

1. Ada Elsie Ross (05 Jan 1898 --10 May 1971) who married Albert H. Johnson (1895- 28 Dec 1938); Ada Elsie Ross Johnson and Albert H. Johnson had 5 children: Luella Mardell Johnson (13 Oct 1915 -13 Feb 1982); Leslie N. Johnson, born ca. 1917 in Iowa; Edna M. Johnson, b: ca. 1919 in Bloomington, McLean, Illinois; Virgil F. Johnson, born ca. 1921 in Iowa; Melvin L. Johnson born ca. 1923;

2 Mazie/Masie Naomi Ross (31 Mar 1900 -- 28 Sep 1968)

3 Gladys Ross b: ca. 1901 in Iowa

4 Elva Ross b: Abt. 1905 in Iowa

5 Forrest Ross b: Abt. 1908 in Iowa

6 Edna Ross b: Abt. 1909 in Iowa

After Matilda Barkley Ross’s death in 1911, it looks like Forrest was sent to the Iowa Children’s Home in Des Moines as he appears in the 1915 census there.

Further research shows that Matilda Barkley is the daughter of Peter Barkley, Jr. and Melissa Enderson/Enderbee?. They are in the 1880 census in Louisville, Saint Lawrence, New York living with Melissa’s parents. This Peter Barkley is later shown living with Masie and Ernest Ross in Algona in later censuses. He appears to be buried in Riverview Cemetery in Algona (died 17 March 1909, age 58 years); His wife, Melissa (Matilda’s mother) (14 May 1863 – 10 December 1889) is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg along with Peter’s parents, Peter Barkley, Sr. (1804-April 1887) and Margaret Baldwin/Bolden Barkley (1803-August 7, 1881). Peter and family are from Dundas, Ontario, Canada. Much has been written about the Barkley family from Dundas—United Empire Loyalists during the Revolutionary War.

Sources: 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses; 1905, 1915 and 1925 Iowa State Censuses; Riverview Cemetery, Algona, Iowa and Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg, Iowa;

I would suggest that you look at the Algona newspapers to locate obituaries. Hope this helps.
