Early-Day Whittemore Rural Teacher Passes
Whittemore, Mar. 28 – Luke E. Donahue, 61, who had lived at his brother W. A. Donahue’s, north of Whittemore, during the last few years, was buried last week Tuesday at Emmetsburg. He had entered the McCreery hospital two or three weeks before for and operation, and he died last week Sunday. He was born November 6, 1872, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Donahue, in Clayton county. In 1884, he came here and for many years taught rural schools in this section of Iowa. He never married. Besides W. A., another brother, Patrick, survives.
Funeral services were conducted at St. Michael’s Catholic church, Whittemore, Father Hyland in charge. Pallbearers were Cleophus Cullen, James Butler, James Weir, Gerald Cullen, A. Schmidt Jr., and Philip Wander. Mr. Donahue was a brother-in-law of J. S. Cullen.
