Oct 2, 1918 - Algona Upper Des Moines - Passing of Pioneer - Mrs John Von Bank Resident of this County since 1872 died Saturday. Leaves many Friends - Mrs. Veronica VonBank passed to her reward Saturday morning at six thirty after an illness of three weeks. Mrs Von Bank has suffered with diabetes for over five years, still her death was an unexpected shock to her family and many friends. During the past three weeks she was confined to her bed with carbuncles which hastened her death.

Miss Veronica Heiderscheidt was born June 16, 1855 Luxemburg, Dubuque County, Iowa, and died at the age of 63 years. She came to Kossuth County in 1872, locating near St Joe, where she was married to John Von Bank in 1873. Mrs. Von Bank was a devout Catholic and her many deeds of charity and good examples won the love of all who knew her.

Her death is mourned by her ten children, namely: Mike of West Bend; Sister Ursuline of Sioux City; Mrs Maggie Yackley at Madelia, MN; Joe P, Peter, and Mrs Rosa Stattelman of St Joe. Besides 22 grandchildren, all of whom were present at the funeral which was held Monday morning at the St Joe Church. The funeral was one of the largest ever seen in St Joe. Her husband preceded her in death three years ago.

Pallbearers were: Henry Wolfe, George Becker, Will Mertz, John Wagner, Fred Illg, and George Illg.
