August 3, 1961 - Algona Upper Des Moines - Last Rites for John Thilges At West Bend, Ia. - Last rites for John Thilges, 83, West Bend retired farmer, were held Wed. at 9:30 a.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Louis Greving officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph's Cemetery, St. Joe, Ia. The Schellhammer Funeral Home, West Bend, Ia. was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Thilges, who had been ill for two weeks, died Sunday evening in Mercy hospital at Fort Dodge, Iowa.

John Thilges, son of Peter and Mary (Link) Thilges, was born at St. Joe, Ia. He was raised and educated there and married Suzanna Etringer, September 19, 1905 at Springbrook, Ia. Mr. & Mrs. Thilges then farmed near St. Joe and West Bend, Ia. prior to their retirement to a home in West Bend in 1947.

Besides his wife, survivors include five daughters: Mrs. Victor Besch, Ottosen; Mrs. Julius Gartner and Mrs. Ray Gartner, Mapleton, Minn.; Mrs. Alfred Bormann, Bancroft; and Mrs. Clarence Frideres, LuVerne, Ia.; five sons, Edwin of Bode, Felix, Clarence & Sylvester of West Bend, and Melvin of Ottosen; three brothers, William & Leo of Algona, and Nicholas of Whittemore; 45 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
