Dec 24, 1973 - Kossuth County Advance - Edward M Thilges of Algona, 69 year old retired St Joe area farmer, became suddenly ill at the Garrigan High School basktetball game Friday night and was dead on arrival at the Kossuth County Hospital where he was taken by ambulance.

Funeral services are at 8 am today Monday in St Cecelia's Catholic Church with Msgr. W.R. Bauer officiating. Burial is in St Joseph Cemetery with the Wilson funeral home of Algona in charge of the arrangements.

Edward Thilges, a son of Peter and Kate Frideres Thilges, was born in Riverdale Township on June 20, 1904. He attended schools in St Joe where he began farming. He was married to Anita Stattelman at St. Joe on Nov. 29, 1950 and the couple moved into Algona in 1967 following his retirement a year earlier.

He is survived by his wife and twin daughters, Mary, a student at Iowa State University in Ames and Carrie who is attending AIB in Des Moines. Two sisters also survive, Agathe, Mrs Wilfred Schneider of Bode, and Rosina, Mrs John Lentsch, Algona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Alphonse, who died in 1964.
