July 3, 1975 - Algona Upper Des Moines - St. Joe — Word was received here of the death of Barbara Plathe, 84, on Tuesday, June 17, in the home of a nephew, John Reilly, in Janesville, Wisc., where she had made her home the past four years after moving from Des Moines.

Miss Plathe was born June 14, 1891 to Joseph and Catherine Lucas Plathe, southwest of St. Joe in the Bode area. She attended a rural school and St. Joseph's School in St. Joe and also attended the Humboldt College. She was with Book Trails and supervisor of magazine sales in Detroit, Mich, and Milwaukee, Wisc., had a millinery shop in West Bend and also worked in Ft. Dodge.

She is survived by twenty four nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Edward, Herman and Charles; four sisters, Elizabeth, Mrs. Peter Mertz, and Susie, Mrs. J.B. Mertz, both of West Bend; Kathryn, Mrs. H.M. Thilges, St. Joe; and Cecelia, Mrs. Ed Reilly of Janesville, Wisc; and seven nephews.

A memorial mass was read in Janesville, Wisc, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A private funeral Mass was read in St. Joseph's Catholic Church here by Rev. David Hogan Monday June 23 at 7:30 p.m. with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the family plot with relatives attending.
