May 31, 1907 - Algona Courier - Joseph Illg, one of the fine old gentlemen of St. Joe, died Tuesday morning last at the ripe old age of 83 years and 8 months. He was born in Whittenburg, Germany, and came to America in 1848 and settled in Dupage county, Illinois.

He farmed there until 1885 when he came to Kossuth county and settled on a farm in Riverdale township where he lived until a month before his death when he and his good wife moved to the village of St. Joe where they would be nearer to the church and could more conveniently attend to the religious devotions on which their minds were intent.

His good wife survives him and also one daughter, Ida, and four sons, Edward, Balthasar, George, and Frederick, all living in that community.
