George Illg 1872-1945

ILLG, BECKER, ZEIMET, DROESSLER

May 1, 1945 - Kossuth County Advance - George Illg, 73, retired farmer in the St. Joe vicinity 4 miles northwest of Bode, died at his home at 9 p.m. last week Monday of general arterio-schlerosis complicated with arthritis. Funeral services were Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic church, St. Joe, solemn requiem high mass Rev. William Mason, Emmetsburg officiating.

Mr. Illg was born April 21, 1872, near Milton, Illinois, and he lived with his parents, Joseph and Mary Illg on their farm till 1887, when he came to Kossuth county. On Sept. 28. 1897, his marriage at St. Joe to Rose Becker took place. They farmed and became parents of six children, two of whom died in early childhood.

Four children, with their mother, survive: Mrs. Henry Zeimet, Swea City; Mrs. Frank Droessler, Bancroft; Father Francis Illg; and Arthur Illg, Bode postoffice. Surviving also is a brother Fred, Bode postoffice. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery at St. Joe, and pallbearers were Alfred and Bernard Thilges, Wilfred and William Becker, Orville Wagner, and William McGuire.

During the active years of his life Mr. Illg farmed, but in 1928 he retired to Algona, where he bought a home. In 1941, however, he sold the house and moved back to the farm to spend his remaining days in a small home built in the same yard where the son Arthur resides. Mr. Illg was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, a former member of the Algona Knights of Columbus Council. Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Jake Illg, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Ehlririger, all of Currie, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Illg, Northfield, MN; Raymond Illg, Minneapolis, MN.
