Dec 20, 1951 - Algona Upper Des Moines - Mike Freilinger, life-long resident of the Livermore-St. Joe area, collapsed and died in a grocery store in Humboldt, about 5 p.m. last Friday afternoon. He had just entered the store. As he started to fall, Rev. Fritz Springis, Methodist pastor who happened to be in the store, tried to assist Freilinger as he slumped to the floor. A doctor was called and pronounced the Kossuth man dead. It was said that Mr. Freilinger had been suffering from a chronic heart ailment for sometime. He had been living in the convalescent home here, and then for the past two months at the Hotel Humboldt.

The body was brought to Algona where the Hamilton Funeral Home made arrangements for burial. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic church, with Father Leo Schumacher officiating.

Michael Freilinger, 70, was born Nov. 10, 1881, at St. Joe, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Freilinger. He was raised in the community, and continued to farm there for many years. Brothers and sisters surviving are Mrs. Anna Berte, Livermore; John, and Joe Freilinger, St. Joe; Sister Sienna, Dubuque; and Sister Gervase, St. Bernard's seminary, Chicago, Illinois. Pallbearers at the funeral were six nephews: Alvin Berte, Raymond Berte, Cletus Streit, Alfred Freilinger, Walter Freilinger, and Francis Berte.
