Doris Davis
A well known area lady, Doris Davis of Irvington, 66, died of apparent heart failure Friday evening at her home. She had not been well the past two weeks.
Funeral services for Mrs. Davis was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the Chapel of the Geilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Algona with the Rev. Skip Petts of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Davis, Larry Davis, Tony Stephens, Bernard Colwell, Keith Colwell and Joel Colwell.
Doris Colwell, daughter of Leon Ernest and Florence Fowler Colwell, was born at West Bend Apr. 10, 1919. She attended school at Livermore and married B.O. "Buck" Davis at Algona Mar. 15, 1938. Following their marriage, Doris and Buck at Abingdon, Ia. until 1943 when they moved to Irvington where she has since lived.
Doris had worked for Bomgaars Variety Store several years, then began working at the Irvington Store in 1977. She retired in 1984 when the store closed. She was secretary of the Irvington Light and Power until it was sold to Algona Municipal Utilities, was assistant post mistress and post mistress until the post office at Irvington closed.
Mr. Davis died in November of 1976 and Doris is survived by two sons and a daughter; Darrel Davis, Algona; Dennis Davis, Hampton. Il. and Janet, Mrs. Richard Fellin of Mason City. There are nine grandchildren.
A brother, Charles Colwell of Ankeny and sister, Mrs. Gerry Vander Waal, Somerset, Mo., also survive.
A son, Garry Davis, died in 1980 and 2 brothers, Harold and Eugene Colwell, are deceased.
