Biography reproduced from page 148 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

John Kain is one of the well known farmers of Kossuth county, located in Plum Creek township, on the farm where his birth occurred June 29, 1867. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Kain, who located at a very early day in Kossuth county. He was reared in his parents’ home and received his early education in the public schools in Plum Creek township. He remained under the parental roof engaged in work on his father’s farm until the time of the latter’s death, after which he came in possession of that property and has since continued to be engaged in the cultivation of the old home farm. He is owner of a half section of fine agricultural land in Kossuth county and on the place where he now resides he has built a new house and added various other necessary improvements to the property. He is also extensively interested in real estate located in various parts of Kossuth county.

Mr. Kain was united in marriage in February 1898, to Miss Mary Bahr, and they are the parents of seven children, John W., Elgena, Edward James, Robert, George, Mary and Anna. Mr. Kain is independent in politics and has served as a member of the board of directors of his school district. He is a member of the Catholic church, while Mrs. Kain is of the German Lutheran faith. He is one of the well known and respected citizens of Plum Creek township and a man whose integrity has gained for him the confidence and esteem of the people of the community in which he lives.
