Biography reproduced from page 373 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

Robert E. Kain is one of the enterprising and well known farmers of Kossuth county where he is engaged in the cultivation of one hundred and sixty acres of land in Plum Creek township. He was born July 16, 1865 in the township of Plum Creek, and is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Kain. He was reared at home and received his early education in the public schools. He remained under the parental roof until thirty years of age, at which time he established his home on one hundred and sixty acres of land on section 32, Plum Creek township, where he has since been engaged in general farming. He is also the owner of eighty acres of land in another portion of the township.

Mr. Kain was united in marriage in 1897 to Miss Mary R. Mullen, and they have one daughter, Mary Alice, whom they adopted at the age of four months. Mr. Kain is affiliated with the democratic party but often votes independently in the exercise of his franchise. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and carries a life insurance policy in the Bankers’ Life of Des Moines. He and his family are members of the Catholic church. He is one of the highly esteemed citizens of his community and a man who can always be depended upon to do his full share in the advancement of any public movement, inaugurated to improve the conditions of the people and contribute to the general welfare.
