Biography reproduced from page 266 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

Among the successful members of the dental profession in Algona is Dr. William E. Kain, a native of Plum Creek township, Kossuth county, Iowa, where he was born June 27, 1878. His parents were Patrick and Anna Kain, a sketch of whom appears elsewhere in this work.

William E. Kain secured his earlier education at the district school near his parents’ farm. He later attended the Normal School at Algona and for one year pursued his studies at St. John’s University, of Collegeville, Minnesota. For two years he was a student in the University of Iowa, at Iowa City, where he pursued the collegiate course and at the same seat of learning he pursued dental surgery, securing his degree with the class of 1902. After his graduation he immediately began to practice his profession in Algona, where he has been continuously so engaged since that time. In November 1911, Dr. Kain removed his offices to the County Savings Bank building, where in well appointed parlors he is continuing his growing practice. He is owner of a fine eighty acre farm in Kossuth county, the management of which affords him not only considerable profit but also a diversion of much value. He is a member of the Iowa State Dental Society and also of the Mason City Dental Society, associations in which he takes a lively interest, using them as far as possible for the enrichment of his professional knowledge.

Dr. Kain gives his allegiance to the republican party and has long been prominent in its local councils. Fraternally Dr. Kain is an active and valued member in the local organizations of the Knights of Columbus, the Modern Woodmen of America and the Yeomen. His religious affiliations are with the Catholic faith, he being a faithful and consistent member of the Algona Catholic church. Dr. Kain by professional attainment, close attention to business, personal magnetism and social and civic activities has long since become one of Algona’s prominent citizens. His public-spiritedness and generosity together with his warm-hearted nature have won him a host of friends and enviable place among the prominent men of the younger set in Algona.
