Biography reproduced from page 308 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

Edward Kunz is one of the well known and successful business men of Wesley, where he has been engaged in the grocery business continuously since 1886. He was born in Watertown, Wisconsin, March 1, 1873, and is a son of Edward and Anna (Scheberle) Kunz, of whom more extended mention is made on another page of this work. In his father’s family were eight children: Edward; Julius, of Wesley; Henry and Otto, both of Wesley; John, who makes his home in Goldfield, Iowa; Albert Allen, who is employed in the store of our subject, Adelia, the wife of Dr. Carmody, of Wesley; and Agnes, the wife of Arthur Corey, of Des Moines, who is secretary of the State Agricultural Society.

Edward Kunz was reared at home and received his early education in the public schools of Wesley. At the age of thirteen he was placed in charge of the grocery establishment of his father and has since continued to give his attention to that business. In 1890 he built a large and more suitable building, in which to carry on his grocery business, to which at that time he added also a dry-goods and clothing department. He is interested in the Kunz Grain Company, which is successfully operated by his brothers, Otto, Julius and Henry. Mr. Kunz is owner of four hundred and eighty acres of land in Kossuth county and also interested in other real estate outside of the county and is a director of the First National Bank of Wesley.

Mr. Kunz was united in marriage in 1908 to Miss Ruth Brady, and they are the parents of three children, Fedalis, Edward S. and Madaline. Mr. Kunz and his family are members of the Caholic church. He has fraternal relations with the Knights of Columbus of Fort Dodge, Iowa. He is one of the well known and useful citizens of his county and as an evidence of the high esteem in which he is held by the public-spirited citizens of Wesley he was elected to the office of mayor of Wesley, in which capacity he continued for two terms, his first election having occurred in 1900 while he was making a tour in Europe. He is a man whose integrity in business transactions has never been questioned and is justly entitled to be placed among the influential citizens of his county and state.
