Biography reproduced from page 652 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:
Joseph Rahe is a member of the board of trustees of Ramsey township, Kossuth county, Iowa, and is operating two hundred and ninety-six acres of land, of which he owns one hundred and fifty, on section 6. He was born in Dubuque, Iowa, and reared at New Vienna, this state, where he received an education in the common schools and lived until he attained the age of eighteen years, when he came to Kossuth county and settled in Greenwood township on a farm which he purchased from Dr. Hubbard. Mr. Rahe improved the buildings which were upon the farm when he purchased it and improved his land by a complete drainage system, bringing the farm to a high state of cultivation. He sells only a part of the grain which he raises, feeding the remainder to cattle, hogs and horses. He is a stockholder in the creamery and elevator at Bancroft and in all his business affairs is energetic and successful.
Mr. Rahe was married in Greenwood township to Miss Mary Kramer, a native of Germany and a daughter of Matt and Katherine Kramer, who were residents of that township. To Mr. and Mrs. Rahe have been born six children, all on the old home farm, Aloysius, Rudolph, Annie, Veda, George and Walburga.
In his political affiliations Mr. Rahe is a democrat and has taken a reasonably active part along political lines, now serving as township trustee. He has also taken an active interest in educational matters and has for seven years been a member of the Ramsey township school board. He is one of the prosperous, progressive and esteemed agriculturists of Ramsey township, having a large circle of friends, all of whom regard him with the greatest respect.
