Early Iowa research

I am looking for help with very early eastern Iowa research. Are there books or histories about this available? My gggrandfather is in the 1836 Iowa Census. He was also in Iowa through the 1840's. His widow? is in Keokuk County Census in 1850. He was Cornelius Connor/Conner (Irish) and his wife was Nancy Moore, married in Ohio in the 1820's.
