E. S. Sturdevant, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Sturdevant, died Saturday, November 7, 1908, at the hospital in Iowa City, where he had submitted to an operation.
He was born in Indianapolis, Mahaska county, August 15, 1865, and has always lived in this vicinity. He was united in marriage, November 20, 1887, to Miss Ella Clark, and to this union nine children were born, six of whom with the wife remain to mourn the loss of a kind and good husband and father. The surviving children are Ernest, James, Louis, Ruth, Mildred and Edith.
Mr. Sturdevant united with the Christian church at the age of fifteen and remained true to the faith until death. He always took a lively interest in educational matters. He was a member of the local school board for six years and at the time of his death was principal of the South English schools.
The funeral services were held from the Christian church Wednesday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. W. B. Wilson and interment at the Springfield cemetery.
