Ray "Paduke" Snakenberg, 73, of Sigourney, died Mon., Aug. 25, 2003, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney of cancer.

He was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Sigourney, the son of J.W. and Norma (Swails) Snakenberg and was raised by his grandparents, Marshall and Minnie Swails. He attended country school and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 until 1950 and the Army Reserves for 27 years. He drove for Parkhill Trucking, was a lineman for the R.E.C. and most recently was owner of Snakenberg Excavating and part owner of R & R Excavating.

He is survived by his companion of 34 years, Arlene Nilles; one son, Patrick; one foster son, Jerry Jensen; three grandchildren; three brothers, David, George Tipold and Bob Tipold; and four sisters, Helen Lee, Marietta Snakenberg, Mignon Dumont, and Lavon Barath.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Stanley.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thurs. Aug. 28, at the United Methodist Church in Sigourney with Rev. Danny Lemons officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney.
