James A. Souer, 69, of Delta, died March 29, 1996 at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.
He was born July 22, 1926, near Webster to George and Grace White Souer.
He married Hilda Taylor June 22, 1949, in Delta.
James graduated from Thornburg High School and attended Iowa State College. He worked for English Valley Coop and began dairy farming in the 1950's. He was a School bus driver for Sigourney Schools and a member of Delta Christian Church, Universe Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 242 in What Cheer, Aspasia O.E.S., the Delta Ruritans, the Delta Trees Forever, the Delta Community Housing and Farm Bureau. He was former director of Mid America Diarymen, former president of Delta School Board and former Dairy Herd Improvement Association Supervisor. He had worked part-time at Dollar General Store in Sigourney.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Ellen Wagler, Elaine Heisdorffer and Nancy Souer; six grandchildren; a brother, Lewis and a sister, Minnie Fry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson and an infant brother, Harold.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 1 at Delta Christian Church, with Rev. Dan Sanford officiating. Burial was in Springfield Cemetery near Delta.
