Adam Allen Ritchie, 85, of Keswick, died Sun., Jan. 18, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Home in Ottumwa.

He was born Oct. 18, 1918, near Montezuma, the son of William Edward and Verdie Wise Ritchie. He was raised in the Montezuma area and attended the Montezuma Public Schools. He spent his entire life farming in the Montezuma, Deep River and Gibson areas. He was united in marriage to Erma Eileen McWilliams in Deep River on Sept. 22, 1940. He also spent many years selling feed for Arbies Feed Company. He farmed until 1996. Two years later he had a stroke and has been a resident at the Ottumwa Good Samaritan Home for the past five years. His enjoyments included dancing, playing cards, raising, selling, and spending time with his Blue Heeler Dogs, telling jokes, drinking coffee with the guys at the Oskaloosa WalMart, attending farm auctions and most of all taking the grandkids fishing and to the candy store. He was a member of the Ruritan Club and the Thornburg Lions Club.

He is survived by, two sons, Sam and Dan; a daughter, Sandra Kaye Shalin; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stevie; a sister, Gladys Whitworth; and a son-in-law, Gent Shalin.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 24, at the Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer with the Pastor Don Ridenour officiating. Interment will follow at the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg.
