Harry Leroy Messerschmitt, 96, formerly of Martinsburg, died Dec. 30, at the Manor House in Sigourney.

He farmed with his father and served in the China-India theater during World War II. He was awarded three bronze stars. He worked for John Deere from 1951 until his retirement in 1982.

Survivors include two sons and two daughters.
