Carl G. Draegert, 92, of What Cheer, died Wed., Dec. 13, 1995. at the University of Iowa Hospital.

He was born July 20, 1903, in Sigourney to Rudolph and Emma Allison Draegert. He married Lois Warnock Aug. 22, 1929. She preceded him in death June 16, 1990. He moved to Thornburg in 1908, and was a 1920 graduate of Thornburg High School. He attended college for two years in McPherson, Kan., and graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1928. He passed the bar exams a year before graduation in 1927. He was a member of What Cheer United Methodist Church where he was leader, stewart and trustee. He was also former master of Universe Lodge No. 242 AF & AM, former patron of Order of Eastern Star, What Cheer Opera House Board of Directors, Scotish Rite & Shrine Club, charter member of What Cheer Lions Club, Tribe of Knohocado, officer of Iowa Wesleyan College and Iowa Bar Association. He began practicing law in What Cheer in 1928, served on the district nominating committee for the District Court Judges, was honored by the Iowa Bar Association in 1978 and received the Governor's Leadership Award from Gov. Terry Branstad in 1983. He retired from practice in 1995.

He is survived by a son, David Draegert; a daughter, Cynthia Simpson; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter; and two sisters, Lena Carter and Ada Draegert.

Services were held Dec. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at What Cheer United Methodist Church, the Rev. Vince Homan officiating. Masonic services were by Universe Lodge No. 242. Burial was in Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg.
