Gilbert Reed, 76, of Sigourney died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1993, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City.

He was born December 2, 1916, in Delta to Tonkie and Edith Hawk Reed. He married Betty Stevens October 3, 1937, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She died October 18, 1991. He married Wanda Jones August 1, 1992, in Sigourney.

He graduated in 1936 from Delta High School, worked for Montgomery Wards in Ottumwa, served in the U.S. Air Corp from 1943-46. He owned and operated Restaurants in Leon, Delta and Oskaloosa and was circulation manager of the Des Moines Register in Oskaloosa for many years. He moved to Sigourney in 1961 and was a member of Delta American Legion, Disabled American Veterans in Oskaloosa and Delta Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ron; a step-son, Dr. Tim Jones; two grandsons; a step-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Gerald and Fritz.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Rev. Max Johnson officiating. Burial was in Garrett Cemetery near Delta.
