Sam Russell Holland, 71, formerly of What Cheer, died May 17, 1993, in Walnut, Calif., where he resided with his wife, Karen.

Born April 6, 1922, he was the only son of Ralph and Carrie Holland of What Cheer.

During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Alabama. In 1985 he retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad, after 37 years of service.

Besides his mother and father he was also preceded in death by his sister Grace in 1946 and his wife, Mary in 1985 after 40 years
of marriage.

Funeral services were held May 20, 1993 at Inglewood, California. Burial was in Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, Calif.
