Steinbeck, Rubio, Dies

RUBIO - Alfred J. "Streamer" Steinbeck, 76, veteran Rubio businessman, died at 8:50 a.m. today at the Jefferson County Hospital. He had been a patient there for three months.

Last rites will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Gould Funeral Home in Richland with the Rev. Wilson Hyde, Fort Dodge, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Gary Benjestorf, Rubio. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.

Steinbeck had owned and operated the Rubio Motor Co. since 1917. He was also chairman of the board of Rubio Savings Bank of Brighton, a member of the Richland Lions Club and Masonic Lodge No. 38, AF&AM. He had served on the board of directors of the Lake Darling Youth Center since its inception.

Steinbeck was born Aug. 23, 1897 at Mendon, Mo., the son of James H. and Nannie Jackson Steinbeck. He was married April 9, 1919 to Vera Fleig.

Surviving are his widow; two sons, Kenneth of rural Richland and Carroll of Rubio; and one foster daughter, Mrs. Rose Tomes, Westmont, Ill. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and a brother, R.L. Steinbeck, Rubio.

The family has requested memorials to the Lake Darling Youth Center. Contributions may be left at the Brighton or Rubio banks.
