Richard Dan Wilkening, 77, of Hayesville died at St. Joseph hospital in Ottumwa June 18, 1983, following a short illness.

He was born Nov. 28, 1905 at Hayesville, the son of William and Florence Hayes Wilkening. He farmed all his life in the Hayesville community.

He married Margaret Rohloff April 26, 1930 and she preceded him in death Dec. 2, 1974. He was a Director at Hayesville Savings Bank for 22 years, Township Trustee and Pennington cemetery trustee for many years. He was Mayor of Hayesville for 10 years.

He is survived by three sons, Richard, William, and George; ten grand children and one great grandchild; one brother, Rex and two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Alma) Conner and Mrs. Willard (Lora) Utterback. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret, two brothers, Billy and Dale and one sister, Mrs. Katie Goeldner.

Services were held June 21 at the Hayesville Community church with Wayne Hubbs officiating.

Burial was at Pennington cemetery south of Sigourney.
