Roy Nichols, 58, longtime Sigourney resident, died Dec. 28, 1985 at Story County Hospital in Nevada. He had lived in Huxley about one year.

The son of Clarence and Bessie McDowell Nichols, he was born Nov. 1, 1927 in Amotet, Missouri. He graduated from Sigourney high school in 1945 and was married to Esther Bruns Sept. 10, 1946, in Sigourney. He was employed by Bruns, Inc. in LP gas sales and service for 28 years, sold fire prevention equipment and specialty items for Newton manufacturing and worked for Boise Cascade in Sigourney for six years. He had been driving for the Marshall Motor Coach Company.

Nichols was a 31-year member of the Sigourney Volunteer Fire Department and had been secretary for 15 years and chief for five years. He was a member of the Lions Club and was active in scouting for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist church in Sigourney and Methodist Men.

Survivors include his wife, Esther; three sons, Jerry, James and Jeff; a daughter, Janice Erhardt; six grandchildren; his father, Clarence and a brother, Carl.

He was preceded in death by his mother and an infant brother, Johnny Robert.

Services were held Tuesday at the United Methodist church in Sigourney with the Rev. Gary Dobbins officiating and burial in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
