Mrs. Dick Starry

SIGOURNEY - Mrs. Nelle Edith Starry, 72, died Saturday morning at Keokuk County Hospital. She had been ill seven years, seriously since last November.

Born Aug. 12, 1899, near Webster, she was the daughter of George and Mary Jane Wolfe Sorden. She was a graduate of Webster High School and attended Cornell and Iowa Wesleyan colleges, majoring in music and English. She taught school in Keswick.

She married Eldon E. (Dick) Starry June 5, 1921, at Webster. They farmed west of Webster until 1948 when they moved to Sigourney and established Starry Implement.

She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha social sorority, the TTT and Eastern Star, and was a member of the United Methodist Church in which she served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, was in the choir and directed the junior choir, for nearly 40 years. She was past president of the Women's Society of Christian Service.

Surviving are her widower; one daughter, Mrs. Roberta Lee Kerr of Indianola; one son, Dr. Allan Starry, a professor at Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind.; five grandchildren and two brothers, Leland G. Sorden of Madison, Wis., and Milo Sorden of Washington, Iowa.

Three brothers preceded her in death.

The service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Frank Greenwood. Burial will be in Sorden Cemetery at Webster.

The body is at Reynolds Funeral Home.
