Rites For H.L. Hayes

RICHLAND - Harold Leroy Hayes, 64, died unexpectedly at his home Saturday morning of an apparent heart attack. He had been downtown earlier in the morning in the car.

He had been a patient at the Jefferson County Hospital earlier this year, and had been recuperating at home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m., at the Richland Friends Church with the Rev. Kenneth Pitts officiating. Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery at Pleasant Plain. The arrangements are in charge of the Gould Funeral Home in Richland. A memorial has been established to the Richland Friends Church, in care of Raymond Dickinson.

Hayes was born on June 14, 1909 near Grace Hill in the Washington County. He was married to Louise Pickard of the Pleasant Plain Community on June 6, 1932.

He was a member of the Richland Friends Church, and for several years he operated the Shell Service Station and served as tank wagon driver.

Survivors include his widow and four children, Mrs. Francis (Glorialie) Avery of Greeley, Colo., Mrs. Kenneth (Mary Lu) Paul of near Brighton, William Hayes of Boulder, Colo., and Robert Hayes of Fairfield.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and four brothers: Cloyce Hayes of Washington, Donald Hayes of Bonita Springs, Fla., Russell Hayes of Seattle, Wash., and Richard of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
