Fielda Mills

Fielda Loving Mills, 87, of Dubuque, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church of Christ in Dubuque. Burial will be in Keota Cemetery in Keota at a later date.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church of Christ, 255 W. Tenth St., Dubuque is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mills was born March 14, 1918, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Jesse Guy and Alta Jean Summitt Loving. She married John William "Jack" Mills June 15, 1940, in Packwood. He died in 2000.

After graduating from Packwood High School, where she lettered in basketball, she attended Parsons College. She was active in music, Elzevir and cheerleading. She earned her teaching degree and taught for several years in Batavia before she was married.

Mrs. Mills and her husband published the Wall Lake Blade weekly newspaper in Wall Lake in the early 1940s. After that she and her family lived in Harlan, Ottumwa and Des Moines.

She worked as a substitute teacher in Des Moines public schools from 1958 to 1964. She worked in claims at Preferred Risk Life Insurance from 1964 until retired in 1983.

She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and participated in United Methodist Women. While living in Dubuque she was a member of First Congregational Church of Christ where she sang in the choir.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Mills and husband John Farr, and Rebecca Burgart and husband John, all of Dubuque; one son, Scott Mills and wife Mary Jo of Apharetta, Ga.; two brothers, Phillip Loving of Galesburg, Ill., and Rober Loving of Sun City West, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Elwyn Loving of Milwaukee, Wis.
