Leola Mae James, 88, died Nov. 6, 2005, at the Keokuk County Health Center.

She was born Nov. 24, 1916 in What Cheer, the daughter of John and Mary Shirlaw Newcomb. She graduated from What Cheer High School in 1935. She married Everett Leroy James on Aug. 11, 1940 in Lancaster, Mo. They lived and farmed south of Keswick for 17 years and then northeast of Sigourney for 40 years. They moved to Sigourney in 1997. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sigourney.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Leroy (Linda) James and Don (Cynthia) James; a sister, Elaine Colbert; two brothers, David and Raymond Newcomb; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Juanita Chapman and Shirley McKeever; and a brother, Jack Newcomb.

Funeral services will be held Nov. 10 at the Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney with the Rev. John Hembry officiating. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery north of What Cheer.
