I'm researching the family of John T. LAIN (Lane) who came from NC or TN, may have come via KY and/or NY and finally settled in the Wyoming/Anamosa area in Iowa. John was born about 1794, and was married to Melissa who was born about 1807 and died January 7, 1882. They had children:
Samuel, James, Thomas, George,Clara (who married John Holmes 9-28-1854), Charles, Elizabeth (who married someone named Akirs or Akers), Henry (who may have been committed as insane), and Josephine. I descend from James (although sometimes I think it must have been Henry, since I can't seem to make all these pieces fit), and I can't get any farther back than John T. If any of this sounds familiar, I'd appreciate a reply.
