Don't know how much I can help here but did run across a post by someone named Beth in 1999 who was looking for the same people. She asked (posted below as she wrote it):

Comments:
looking for info on mary jane piper, married to benjamin starks, and william clark. any help appreciated. benjamin and mary wre married in 1891 in delaware county iowa. she was married to william clark in 1874, but then she was using the name jennie. nay elp greatly appreciated. thanks.

... So looks like she was a CLARK when she married Starks and the last name spelling may be different?

The 1880 census seems to show Ben (born c.1856 IL)married to an Ellen (born c.1858 IA) and living in Richland (outside Monticello), IA.

Marriage book 'C' for Jones County shows Benjamin F. Starks married 12/29/1873 Monticello to Ellen D. Robbins.

Try Delaware County to see if parents were listed on Ben and Jennie's certificate.

Jim
