I see your Ellen on the 1870 Anamosa/Fairview census (Series: M593 Roll: 401 Page: 38 Line: 24) which according to your death date, was just a month before she died at age 36. Heritage Quest lists her name as HALT but is clearly HOLT. At the time she had 4 children - Thomas (11), Essie E. (9), Elizabeth M. (6), and Nicholas (5). She was born in Irleand as was the brothers you mentioned and their father named Thomas was living with Edward C. in 1870 at Fairview. Ellen's occupation is listed as: Grocer.

The father Thomas and wife Catherine was both listed in Anamosa for 1860 so she died at or before 1870. His occupation: Master Mason as was Ellen's husband John (age 30 in 1860 and born Ireland). Thomas' obituary is online.

Now, this definately says they lived and died in Anamosa/Fairview area so where are they?
There are several other cemeteries besides Riverside and Holy Cross in the Anamosa/Fairview area. It depends on what part of the district they lived in also -or- may have been buried on a family plot now lost? Other cemeteries include: Wilcox, Norwich, Highland Grove, Forest Hill/Chapel Hill, and Spade.

If you can find one relative in the bunch and where they are buried, you have a good chance in knowing where they all could be buried. I see that Thomas, Catherine, Edwin (Edward) C., Johnathan B., and others are at Riverside but John and Ellen aren't shown.

That doesn't mean anything as they may not have a stone, or it is now gone? If everyone else is there and John and Ellen lived in Anamosa, I'll almost wager money that they ARE buried there too. The WPA records of the 1930's which include Riverside doesn't show all of the above people either. Sometimes this means there were no stones even then and if one exists now, a family member down the line placed one on the grave many years after their death. Maybe this is the case and John and Ellen were overlooked because the sexton's records are incomplete or parts never recorded.

I have several relatives we KNOW where they are buried but no record of their death or burial!

Joanne may have further information?
