born 04/19/1844 Belvedere, IL and died 4/16/1924 at Independence, IA. Buried in Oakwood Cem., Monticello, IA

wife: Mrs. Elizabeth Johnston
stepdaughter: Emma Loes of Cleveland, OH

Elizabeth's obit:
Maiden name: Inches
born 2/06/1842 Virginia, Il died 01/11/1904
two children: James H Johnson (notice spelling)
Emma (Mrs. C P) Loes The obit. did not list brothers or sisters.

People who attended her funeral:
Mrs. Mary Gould, Virginia, IL
Jane Duehardt of Beardstown, IL
Rev. David Inches of Sterling, KS

Isaac's estate was worth over $4,000. Emma Loes inherited after a "caretaker" sued the estate for $2,000+ for caring for Isaac. This caretaker eventually settled for $400.

When Mary A. Fisher, born 1858 NY, married William Howie in 1890, she said that her parents were James Van Valkenberg and Sarah Fisher. This would indicate to me that Sarah was previously married to someone named Fisher.... So her maiden could still be Inches.

If you can think of anywhere else for me to look in Jones Co., IA, don't hesitate to ask.
