GILLMOR OR GILMORE

I have recently discovered that my great grandparents, Robert and Mary Anne Gillmor, and their child Robert were in Washington Township, Jones County for about three years from May 1850. They were on a farm at the 1850 and 1852 censuses and a deed showing that Robert bought more land in 1852 was found. I have absolutely no other information about their time in Iowa. My grandfather, Stuart John Gillmor, must have been born there June 17th 1851 but, as they were Baptists, there would be no infant baptismal record. I wonder if anyone can suggest sources where I might gain any information about their time in Iowa or what conditions in their locality were like in the early 1850s. Specifically was there any local reason that might have prompted them to leave and return to Ireland? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
