Hello,

Joseph Sherman is my 3rd great grandfather and I'm trying to find out who his parents were. He was born in 1824 in New York and died in Jones county, Iowa in 1891.

the Iowa gravestone site has his birth place as Chautauqua county, NY but I'm not sure where that came from.

A lot of family trees have his parents as Joseph L Sherman and Phebe Winslow but I haven't found any sources for that and I've found some convincing evidence that they're not his parents (I found some notes listing their children and Joseph wasn't one of them).
