I am researching the following surnames from Jones County, Iowa: DARLING, GATES, WEBB, WALSH, TOMLINSON and SIPE. David DARLING and his wife Mary (aka Polly) (GATES) DARLING migrated from their home in Virgil, Cortland County, New York State about 1851-1852, and settled at Fairview, Jones County, Iowa by January 1852 (re: death and burial of daughter Olive G. DARLING, Jan 1852). They had five daughters: (1) Olive G. DARLING, died Fairview, IA 1852; (2) Mercy Ann (aka Ann and Anna) DARLING, married Abner WEBB on 06 Nov 1856 at Fairview, Jones Co., IA by Orlin HARDING, Baptist Minister; they moved to Little McKinney, TX where they had a son Jesse David WEBB, Abner was killed in combat during the Civil War. Anna married (2) Joshua Butler WALSH (aka WALCH) they returned to Fairview, IA in 1867 where they raised four of their own children as well as Jesse WEBB. They later migrated into Nebraska in the late 1880s with most of their children and their families following. (3) Adelia DARLING, married 27 Dec 1857 to Jesse WEBB (possible kinsman to Abner who married Anna). Nothing further is known of this family. (4) Emmaline Lovinia DARLING, born about 1841, married Moses F. SIPE at Fairview, IA and he died in 1868-1869, had a son George F. SIPE, born March 4, 1859. Nothing is known of this family, other then the fact they resided with her parents according to the 1870 Census of Fairview, Jones Co., IA. (5) Amanda DARLING, born about 1842, married George TOMLINSON, 23 March 1866 at Fairview, Jones Co., IA, and shortly afterwards moved to Greenwood County, Kansas. Nothing further known of this family, other then the census information from the 1870 Greenwood Co., KS Census. Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated.
