Last rites for Raymond Hayes Curley Sr, 79, Clarence, were held at the Hayden Funeral home, Oxford Junction, May 2 with the Rev. Ramon Booth officiating. Burial was in Mayflower cemetery. Pallbearers were Dale, Donald and James Chapman, James Rathmann, August Hoffer and Leslie Meade.

Mr. Curley died at Cedar Manor April 29.

The son of Benjamin and Nellie Young Curley, he was born at Hale Feb. 18, 1909. He was educated in the Baldwin schools and then worked as a hired hand in the Hale area. He was married to Anna Leslie in the Lutheran parsonage at Clarence July 16, 1930.

They lived in the Hale area, where he worked for area farmers and as a section hand on the Milwaukee railroad. They raised fruit and Ray was an avid trapper. In 1948 they purchased a farm in the Clarence area.

In 1959 he began work at Clinton Engines, Maquoketa, retiring in 1974.

He is survived by his wife; 6 daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Beverly) Yarolem, Monmouth, Mrs. Ellsworth (Marjorie) Taylor, Davenport; Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Whiton, Brewton, Ala.; Mrs. Charles (Peggy) Wolfe, Dixon; Mrs. Richard (Bonnie) Kuehl, DeWitt and Mrs. Douglas (Mary) Score, Cedar Rapids; 8 sons, Arnold, Larry and Dennis, Oxford Junction; Keith and Lyle, Camden, Ala.; Wayne, Glendale, Calif.; Danny, Clarence and Rex, Midway, Ark.; 52 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
