Funeral services for Melvin Pruess, 69, retired Olin area farmer, were held at St. John's United Church of Christ, Clarence, Dec. 21 with the Rev. Calvin Schumacher officiating. Burial was in St. John's cemetery. Pallbearers were Leroy, Lelan and Milford Pruess, Harold and Melvin Oldorf and Clifford Crist. Mrs. Robert Hasselbusch was organist. The St. John's Adult choir sang.

Mr. Pruess died at University hospitals, Iowa City, Dec. 18.

The son of William and Martha Rixe Pruess, he was born near Olin Sept. 22, 1915. He was married to Louetta Soenksen at Manchester Aug. 19, 1939.

He was a member of the Jones County and Iowa Cattlemen's associations, the Olin Lions club, the Jones County Association for Retarded Children and was past president of the Woodward State Hospital Parents Group.

Mr. Pruess is survived by his wife, a daughter, Valda, Woodward and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by a brother and 2 sisters.
