Terry Keith Meeks, 18, grandson of Hannah Rekemeyer of Tipton and a former resident of the Bennett area, was fatally injured in a one-car crash north of Olin, Friday. He died in University hospitals, Iowa City, Saturday.

Meeks was southbound on Iowa 38 about 8:15 p.m. and had just crossed the Wapsipinicon bridge north of Olin when his car failed to make a curve, went off the side of the road, skidded across the roadway and into the ditch on the other side, hit 3 highway markers and went down a 20-foot ditch, rolling over and stopping on its top.

Two passengers in his car were hospitalized in Anamosa. Neither was seriously hurt.

Meeks' father, Newell Meeks, was killed approximately 18 years ago in a tractor accident on this highway; his step-father was injured in a tractor accident 2 years ago on the family farm at the junction of Iowa 38 and 64 west of Wyoming.

Funeral services for Meeks were held in Anamosa Tuesday.

The son of Mrs. Dean Rekemeyer and the late Newell Keith Meeks, he was born at Monticello, June 30, 1958, and lived in the Anamosa, Bennett and Wyoming area. He graduated from Olin high school in 1976. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist church.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Rekemeyer, Wyoming; 2 brothers, Rick Meeks, Cedar Rapids and Timothy Meeks, at home; 4 sisters, Pamela Meeks, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Mike (Regina) Smith, Anamosa and Rebecca and Renee Rekemeyer, at home, and his grandmothers, Mrs. Alice Achenbach, Anamosa and Hannah Rekemeyer, Tipton.
