Wyoming - Faye Etherington, 81, of Wyoming, died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello.

Faye was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Algona, the daughter of Vance and Katherine (Olinger) Hakes. She married Edgar W. Etherington on Nov. 23, 1938, in Garner. Together, Faye and Edgar farmed near Plymouth, Clear Lake, Woden and then Talmoon, Minn., for 25 years. They then returned to Iowa in 1995. Faye attended school and graduated in Amboy, Minn.

Faye enjoyed fishing and making rag tie rugs and was known as the "Original Recycler".

Faye is survived by her husband, Ed, of Wyoming; two daughters, Shirley (Tom) Gutzeit, of Monticello, and Nancy (David) Cink, of Mantica, Calif.; two sons, Rick (Mary), of Garner, and Mike (Linda), of Titonka; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Evelyn Caven Dehn; two brothers, Gail and Harold; and a son in infancy.
