WYOMING - Herbert W. Cox, 60, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Wyoming Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery at Earlville. Masonic services were held at the Hayden Funeral home in Wyoming Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Born April 1, 1910 at Shell City, Mo., he was the son of Benjamin and Evelyn Lorton Cox. When about 10 years of age, he moved with his family to Colesburg area, later moving to Hopkinton where he graduated from high school. He also attended Lennox College at Hopkinton and Business College at Chillicothi, Mo.

On April 9, 1932 he was married to Mildred Hyde at Earlville, Iowa. He was employed as an assistant buttermaker and assistant manager of the creamery at Sand Springs for several years, and then became buttermaker and manager of the Center Junction; Creamery.

He started his farm equipment dealership in Earlville, but had operated his business in Wyoming for the past 22 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, of which he was a former trustee. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids. He was a past member of city councils, and commercial clubs, and was active in school affairs.

He is survived by his wife; five sons, Richard, Minnetonka, Minn., David, Northfield, Ill., Dean, Cedar Rapids, Donald, Wyoming, Robert, Clarinda; one daughter, Joan, Wyoming.

Also one brother, Edward, Monticello; three sisters, Mrs. Donald Johnston, Riceville; Mrs. Edwin Miller, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Norman Lund, Monticello; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
