31 December 1970 - The Anamosa Eureka

Following a stroke suffered Saturday, Dec. 19 at his home, Byron Frazier died in the Marengo Memorial hospital Wednesday evening at 7:40. The stroke was followed by pneumonia.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 26, in the Jones funeral home at 10 a.m. and the body was taken to Olin for burial in the Olin cemetery. The Rev. J. M. Steffenson was in charge of both services; at the graveside he was assisted by the Rev. Lloyd Dutro, minister of the Olin United Methodist church and Masonic rites were presented.

Burton Jones, accompanied by Mrs. Brad Furman, sang "The Lord's Prayer." Casket carriers were Garth Grafft, Eardley Thomas, W. S. Watts, Jess Bean, Marvin Scott and Anton Huedepohl.

Byron Frazier was born Nov. 16, 1897, in Riverton, the son of C. V. and Millie Byrd Frazier. His elementary schooling was obtained in various school as his father was a school superintendent and taught in several different towns. Byron graduated from the Mechanicsville High School.

In 1921 he married Golden Tarbox in Olin. She died in 1946. On July 29, 1950, he married Florence Ellis in the Methodist church in Williamsburg, where the home was made. He was then employed at Winborn and at the time of his retirement, several years ago, he was custodian of the local high school.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist church in Williamsburg and the Ancient Landmark Masonic lodge in Olin and had served on the cemetery board a number of years. By those who knew him well, Byron will be remembered for his intense love of flowers.

Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Paul, James and Justin.

His survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Richard Hopewell, Davenport; two sons, Jean, Los Angeles, and Richard, Olin; two brothers, Morris, Belvedere, Ill., and Hubert, Des Moines; and one sister, Mrs. Edna Stoner, West Branch.

Other survivors are a son-in-law, Richard Hopewell, Davenport; a daughter-in-law, Sara Jane Frazier, Olin; five grandsons, Ensign Steven Hopewell, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Donald Hopewell, Davenport; Jeff and Dennis Frazier, Olin; Ronald Frazier, Cedar Rapids; nieces and nepehws.
