1 October 1970 - The Anamosa Eureka

David A. Wessels, who had been employed with Elliott Construction Co., only about two weeks, died shortly after he came in contact with a high voltage power line at a substation southwest of Wyoming Monday morning.

Officials said he was in a basket at the end of a boom when the boom was raised and came in contact with the high voltage lines.

After coming in contact with the power wire (the contact interrupted the power service in much of this area for about 15 seconds shortly after 8 a.m., Monday, Sept. 28) he was rushed to the Anamosa hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

He was born May 23, 1940 at Anamosa, the son of George and Martha L. Norton Wessels and graduated from Anamosa high school in 1960 and served in the army from 1964 to 1966.

He is survived by his parents; nine brothers and sisters, Gary, Marion; William, Anamosa; Mrs. Paul (Naomi) Rose, Audubon, Pa.; Robert, Albuquerque, N.M.; Janet, Takoma Park, Md.; Mrs. Richard (Sheryl) Wink, Anamosa; Mrs. Harold (Sharon) Clark, Audubon, Pa.; Cindy and Mark, Anamosa. Also surviving is his maternal grandfather, W. O. Norton, Redding, Calif.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, 1970 at Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, with the Rev. John Huber of St. Paul Lutheran church, Marion, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Maynard Siebels will sing; Mrs. W. M. Frederick will be organist. Pallbearers will be Gary Teymer, Edwin Butterfield, Warren Wortman, Galen Stickley, Clarence Dirks and James Russell.
