OLIN - Omar Oby Vrooman, 62, died Friday, Aug. 7, at University hospital, Iowa City, following surgery.

A family prayer service was held at the Hayden funeral home, Olin, on Monday, Aug. 10, at 10:45 a.m., with memorial services at St. Paul's United Methodist church, Olin, at 2 p.m. Rev. Lloyd Dutro, pastor, was in charge. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.

Pallbearers included James Tallman, Larry Gordon, Loren Mortvedt, Lavern Cruise, Joe Cruise and Norman Carstensen.

Mrs. Galen Alexander, Wyoming, was organist. Loren Hartwig was soloist. Mrs. Richard Frazier and Mrs. Thomas Gill had charge of the floral tributes.

He was born March 10, 1908, son of Don L. and Ada Dodge Vrooman, near Hale. He grew up in the Hale and Olin communities, attending the rural schools and the Olin Consolidated school. Omar lived his entire life in this vicinity.

He was united in marriage to Mabel Cruise on June 20, 1935. His wife preceded him in death Feb. 26, 1952.

On Nov. 28, 1964, he was united in marriage to Edna Hart, Olin. He farmed for several years and for the past 13 years he had been employed at Iowa Manufacturing Co. in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Edna, Olin; a son, Ronald Vrooman, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Mary Ann, Mrs. Donald Levsen, Olin; two stepdaughters, Mary Ann, Mrs. Mervin Chamberlin, Olin; and Linda, Mrs. Craig Parker, Monticello.

Others include four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Hazel Carstensen, Oxford Junction; and three brothers, Everett Vrooman, Olin; Lee L. Vrooman, Corona, Calif., and Howard Vrooman, Bettendorf.

In addition to his first wife, he was also preceded in death by both his parents.
