MARTELLE - William A. Sheriff, 54, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 19, in his sleep at the home of his sister, Mrs. Elaine Childers, near Martelle.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23, at 11 a.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Melvin Miller will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Norwich cemetery near Martelle.

Pallbearers include Earl Gordon, Willie Childers, Russell Childers, Ronny Dubek, Carroll Shatzer and Richard Lenner.

He was born Feb. 26, 1916, son of James and Essie Woods Sheriff, New Albin. He had worked as a farm hand in Jones and Linn counties for the last several years. The last year he had made his home with his sister, Mrs. Childers, near Martelle.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia; Mrs. Carroll Shatzer, Clarksville; and Mrs. Kathryn Mitchell, Waukon; and a son, Ronald Sheriff, Woodward; and three grandchildren.

Other survivors include four sisters, Lorilla Gordon, Portland, Oreg.; Mrs. Pearl Yerkes, New York Mills, Minn.; Mrs. Irma Dubeck, Ely; and Mrs. Elaine Childers, Martelle; and one brother, Leonard Sheriff.
