28 October 1954 - The Anamosa Eureka

OLIN - F. D. Lawson, about 80, Olin businessman for about 50 years, died at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, Tuesday, Oct. 26. He was stricken with a heart ailment earlier the same day.

Funeral services will be held at the Campbell funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29. Burial will be in the Olin cemetery.

Mr. Lawson has been in the grocery business in Olin for many years. He had been an electrician and a harness maker.

He married Emma Johnson of Anamosa. One son, Edgar, Olin, survives.

4 November 1954 - The Anamosa Eureka

OLIN - Frederick D. Lawson, 84, Olin businessman for many years, died at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, Tuesday, Oct. 26, after a brief illness.

Frederick David Lawson, the son of James Samuel Lawson and Elizabeth Rummell Lawson, was born in Cedar county, April 7, 1870. He was one of a family of five children all of whom except one sister, preceded him in death.

While living in Nebraska as a young man he learned the harness making trade.

He came to Anamosa where he was married to Emma Johnson in 1890. Three sons, two of whom died in infancy; were born to this union.

Couple moved to Calamus, where he started in the harness business, later returning to Anamosa where he followed the same trade.

In 1899 they moved to Olin, where he was in the harness business for a number of years. For the last 25 years he had been in the grocery and electrical business.

In 1908 he joined Ancient Landmark Lodge No., 200, A.F. and A.M. and had continued his relationship with that organization since that time. He was also a member of Hiawatha chapter No. 394 Order of Eastern Star, Olin.

In the past he served several years as a member of the town council of Olin and also as a member of the Board of Education of the Olin school.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, two sisters, one brother, two infant sons; and by his wife, who died in August, 1952.

He is survived by one son, Edgar H. Lawson, Olin; one sister, Mrs. Jennie L. Baker, Olin; one granddaughter, Elizaberh Baker, Windom, Minn.; and two grandsons, Fred and Arno Lawson, both of Olin. He is also survived by two great grandsons, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were held Friday afternoon, Oct. 29. There was a brief prayer service at the family home at 1:45 p.m., followed by a service at the Campbell funeral home in Olin at 2 p.m. Rev. Lloyd Dutro, pastor of the Olin Evangelical United Brethren church was in charge.

Richard Frazier sang, "Rock of Ages" and "Good Night and Good Morning" accompanied by Mrs. Louis Rohwedder.

Erma Dutro, Jessie Dripps and Velma Switzer were in charge of the floral offerings.

Ancient Landmark Lodge No. 200 A.F. and A.M., Olin, was in charge of Masonic rites.

Casketbearers were Robert Mason, N. R. Waggoner, James Cousins, August Ahrendsen, Richard Benischek and Earnest Peck. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.
